SPRING 2024: Hand-to-Hand Combat Update

New combat packs a punch -- and experimental Proton compatibility for Linux.

Greetings, Agents.

The clocks have changed, April Fool's has arrived, and Intruder's Spring 2024 update is here -- and this one packs a punch. But, as the seasons change, it's not just goofs coming to your matches -- we've been working hard on a few things you've been asking about, and planting the seeds for Intruder's future.

Before we dive in, we'd like to send our sincere congratulations to OWL for claiming 1st prize in the Intruder Competitive League Season 8. The competitive matches were exhilarating to watch,

Let's dive into the update...


Advanced CQC Gadget: Gloves

Headquarters has authorized the temporary use of Advanced Close Quarters Combat tactics. Engage in Advanced CQC with the all new Gloves gadget, available for a limited time.

We could brief you on this in detail, but it's safe to say this tactical gadget speaks for itself.

If you want to test the fit of your all-new Gloves, enter the Bill's Octagon map and kick off your very own cage fight. All players will be outfitted with Gloves on their hands for the duration of the Advanced CQC testing period (happy April Fool's, Agents).

Gloves will replace your hands by default for April Fool's -- but you can access them any time with the following match tuning setting:

Gloves will be added to Intruder's Mapmaker at a later date.


Laser Sensor Update

Another tactical gadget improvement courtesy of headquarters: The Laser Sensor device has been upgraded. After your Laser Sensor sticks to a wall, a visible laser beam will briefly appear, indicating its detection path, and then fade out to conceal your gadget as usual.

On top of that, sensors stacked on top of each other should no longer misbehave (i.e. not triggering because they're blocking themselves).


Experimental Linux Compatibility & Other Housekeeping

Intruder is available to play on Linux through Proton. This is experimental compatibility testing -- so we're looking forward to the results and your feedback (which you can share on the official Superboss Games Discord server).

In addition to this, Intruder now has Rich Presence on Discord! This means your Intruder matches will show on your profile's Now Playing section -- allowing friends, teammates, and your boss to see when you're exfil'ing on Riverside.

Additionally, a pop-up message will now inform Demoted players of their status and the reasons for their Demotion.


Improvements & Fixes

The Superboss Games team has also been hard at work on various quality of life updates, many of which surfaced from community feedback (we appreciate you). While laying the groundwork in code for Intruder's future, we've also pushed fixes to map voting, round timer, and more. Here's the full list:

Improvements

  • Better UI and HUD rendering, should now be pixel perfect and without alignment artifacts or missing lines
  • Tons of weapon, projectile, damage, arrest, and inventory code refactoring and optimization, for getting ready for AI
  • Projectile spawn point transform positioning and code
  • Muzzle flash and gun tucking code changes
  • Some first person animation performance enhancements
  • Popups for demotion reasons when launching
  • Activator game objects don't need to be active by default, this allows thunder on Oceanside
  • Improved map name fuzzy search
  • SlipZone script added and change to railing prefab for better slipping

Fixes

  • Fixed laser sensors place on corners blocking each other and not triggering
  • Fixed slowmo not resetting sometimes when loading maps
  • Fixed map voting selecting the wrong map when voting F1
  • Fixed round timer starting without anyone joining a team or specs
  • Fixed round timer appearing or not at the wrong times/settings
  • Fixed lifecheck bugs
  • Fixed popup interaction overflow
  • Fixed stuck Photon connection after leaving tutorial
  • Fixed incorrect first person arms when respawning with hands out


DiD yOu KnOw ThAt!?
Are your friendly recon photos too...irreverent? Too frequent? Muting players in the Team menu will also mute any incoming pictures they send with Binocs.
