Crouching and looking slightly downward will fully protect the user from the front. Cannot be held while prone. Hits from explosions are calculated by how many "rays" hit the player. History
Gameplay
By default, you must pick up a Shield by walking up to it and pressing "V". The shield will need to be bound to a key and typically this open slot is "2". The shield may be able to protect you from a sea of bullets but has many vulnerabilities. The sides and back of your character are unprotected as the shield is only effective if you're looking directly at your enemy. The shield protects against explosives only if you look directly at the source of the explosive. If the explosive is behind or beside the unprotected portions of your character, your character will lose balance. A banana can cause shielded enemies to lose balance. Going Prone with your shield will unequip the item and be stored back in your inventory. A common way to counter a shielded enemy is to run up, shove them so they lose balance, and arrest. In addition, the feet of a standing/running player that has a shield are exposed; they can be targeted.
